Dry Another good book by Augusten. Makes you want to drink less. Which I guess is always a good thing. Makes you appreciate what you have, also a good thing. BTW, they are making Running with Scissors into a movie (!). Looks to be a great cast too. |

Running with Scissors What a thoroughly strange book! It would be just a good book, until you realize that it is a TRUE STORY! Damn. What a messed up kid. I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats. I'm going to see it again and again. |
||
BLINDNESS This so far gets my award for best book I have read in 2004. Which will be a much bigger honor for Jose than winning the Nobel Price for Literature. What the hell do those Scandinavians know about books anyway? This is simply an amazing book. It succeeded both in freaking me out, and making me eagerly want to go home to finish reading. Both great plot and great writing. A winning combo. |

Bringing
Down the House: Ben Mezrich "The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions" Great short read. Makes you want to risk your stash you have been saving up to pay for that '84 Mustang! It is a fun book for people who have been to Vegas, or people who think they are smart, or people who just like money! |
||
American
Psycho: Bret Easton Ellis One of the most entertaining books I have ever read. Ok, how about one of the most disturbing books I have ever read. Ok. both! "In a black satire of the eighties, a decade of naked greed and unparalleled callousness, a successful Wall Street yuppie cannot get enough of anything--including murder." - Amazon |
||
In Search of Zarathustra: "Vital... Remarkable... Artfully reveals the Zarathustian hinges of Iranian culture... [It] is written with the prescient elegance of a curious traveler and in the hope that ideas that once changed the world may do so again." - Boston Review I am currently reading this... so far... very interesting
stuff... |

The
Rules of Attraction Bret Easton Ellis Such a great book. Written in the 80's but is easily a reflection of the youth of the 90's or today. I laughed, I cried, it was better than CATS (SNL reference). This book is about Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n Roll and has plenty of all three. The primary character, Sean Bateman, is the younger brother of Patrick Bateman of American Psycho fame. The story takes place at fictional Camden College (the same school the primary character of Less Than Zero is home visiting from). There is a bit of a sex triangle, but it is more a hexagon by the end of the book. The movie (starring James Van Der Beek and Jessica Biel) is a modern day version, and also worth a look. |
||
"God is now here...God is nowhere...God is now here..." The basic premise of the book revolves around a High School Massacre in 1988, but the most interesting part is the way the story is told. It starts with the story of Cheryl who tells the story of her death, Jason her High School boyfriend she had secretly married, Heather, Jason's Girlfriend, and Reg, Jason's Father. The stories are chronological taking place moments after the shooting, ten years later, and then a couple years after that. Purchase the book or read other reviews at: Amazon |

This book has received a lot of press, and for good reason.
It is truly a “page turner” (I think I finished the book in
three days, and I am a VERY slow reader). The fact that it is such a quick
read makes it a worthwhile venture for every type of reader, from sophisticated
to the “I’ll wait for the movie” crowd. It is a good
mystery with decent character development, and chalk full of enough historical
fact to make you question what we all learned in school. |

Better than I and II (yes, I liked I and II). A little dark, better acting, an actual plot. Saw it twice in the first three days. Actually saw people cry at certain parts (thought it was strange, but whatever). ...and I love Natalie Portman. |
||
Hero As the critics say: Stunning, Dazzling, with emotional richness that deepens with every step. I thought it was "very good" You can listen to it in English, but the DTS Mandarin is required to fully experience the film. Subtitles aren't that hard! |
||
Cheese factor: 10 Yes, it is a teen flick, but not only did I like it, Vipin &Pam did too!
